INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION LITERACY (LECTURE)
1. In your opinion, what makes an individual literate in media and information?
In my opinion, what makes an individual literate in media and information is his/her knowledge about it and his/her proper use with it. Aside from this, he/she should engage with media and other information providers effectively and should also develop critical thinking and life-long learning skills to socialize and be active citizens.
2. What activities/habits do you practice which illustrate media and information literacy?
a) I always engage or involve myself with media since, given that I’m a student, I use this as a medium to submit or pass my homework to my teachers and it’s very effective.
b) Also, in social media, I develop my communication skills since it offers so many platforms that can be an instrument to practice my communication skills such as Facebook, Messenger, twitter, Snapchat, and many more. Through constant communication, it helps me to improve the way I talk and converse with so many people.
c) With social media, I read and learned so many issues concerning the society. With this, it makes me aware about the happenings not only in my county but also other countries. Being informed and knowledgeable is one of the aims of most media and information providers.
d) Social media affects my thinking about different things in the world. It teaches me so many lessons that help me grow as a person – the way I think, the way I do things, and the way I live my life.
e) Social media helps me to be an active citizen since it wakes me in different ways. Just like the way I look at political issues. I was once blinded with wrong thoughts and ideas and I use social media to change my outlook towards life especially towards the government and many other things.
f) Overall, by using media, it helps me with a lot of things effectively. It develops my critical thinking and also teaches me life-long skills to socialize and be an active citizen.
